client: arté salon
project: online marketing strategy
responsible for: conceptual development, design, and production management
project description: joe artale, the owner of arté salon, asked me if i could help him with his salon’s website. “it needs some new copy and maybe some new images,” he said, “oh and it was built using flash, so it doesn’t work on an iphone or ipad.”
a few years back website designers, and their clients, had no idea how popular viewing websites on a smart phone was going to be. up until a year ago we wouldn’t have believed how tablets would almost take over the laptop market. so arté salon's entire web presence was limited to laptop viewing.
in other words, when joe developed his salon’s website, back then, it wasn’t about his customer as much as it was about his salon.
today, if you’re an arté salon customer and you need to set up an appointment to have your haircut—wherever you are—you just want to use your smart phone or tablet, google “arté”, call their number and/or set up an appointment online.
we went about rethinking arté salon's entire online relationship with its customer, and then designed the salon's web experience from scratch—always keeping in mind that this was about the customer’s experience.
the final product is a website that can be viewed on a desktop, a laptop, a tablet computer, or a smart phone. customers can call directly, or set up appointments online. they can "fan" arté salon on facebook, follow them on twitter, or see what others are saying about the salon on yelp.
not only did we make it easier to be a customer, but we created an online environment that encourages a stronger relationship with the salon.
